Since I am all about truth in advertising... I must tell you this story.
Earlier in the month, I had out of town company. We were all sitting in the living room, enjoying the visit, while the children were running in the sprinkler outside. Then one of the older girls went running through the room saying, "Don't mind me... I'm just getting the soap and shampoo."
And in a matter of seconds, one of my deep dark large family mom secret is out. If I have kids running in the sprinkler and we would be having baths that day anyway... I send out the soap and shampoo and they just wash up out there. At least the parts outside their bathing suits. ***
Embarrassing but true. I got a few strange looks that day (and I deserved every one of them...).
So here is my question. Am I the only one in the hemisphere who does this? Is it totally weird or a great idea? Do you wish you had thought of it? Leave a comment and take the poll that is on the sidebar. I'd love to hear what you think?
Genius in the Form of a Homeschool Mom or Just Too Lazy for Words? You decide.
*** No children are hurt while bathing in this form. All children do receive other, more traditional baths in a bathtub, at other times in the week. Just wanted to be sure no one got up in arms about this form of showering once in a while.

As an observer to the event described, I think your solution was absolutely creative, resourceful, and a moment to be remembered fondly by all the kids when they grow up!
ReplyDeleteI love it. Of course, I a often "untraditional" by many standards. You squeeze in what you can when you can and consider yourself saving on the water bill :)
ReplyDelete...only without the soap and shampoo. That is, I've considered water play as good as a bath, but now that I read your post, I am truly inspired! Next time I'll send out the soap :-D
ReplyDeleteI have often considered doing this but never quite got the nerve. You're my hero, Carri! And now that you've freed me to think outside the tub, I might have the kids just "play in the hose"(shower outdoors) more often!
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived on Guam, (age 11-14) I would stand under the water spout from the roof and wash my hair. The rain water made it so soft.
ReplyDeleteCarrie,
ReplyDeleteMy mom once sent us down a crick (Yes, I said CRICK!) in a wash tub to take a bath. I think it's genius personally and wonder why anyone wouldn't think so.
Rocky
At least you send out shampoo and not just soap! I remember taking many summer "baths" in the lake - and my Dad thought Ivory soap was perfectly good for long hair.
ReplyDeleteYup, and we just left out the bottle of shampoo next to the outdoor shower permanently.... You mean you used my indoor shower when you stayed at our house? Amy
ReplyDeleteI was really torn between the third and fourth option! LOL! Lisa~
ReplyDeleteWe wash in the warm summer rains.. Makes your hair so very soft, when rinsed in rain water.. And yes we have also done this.. I consider it killing 2 birds with one stone.. :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely :) Many times my kids have washed up under the rain running off the valley of our roof... If you are getting strange looks it is because the folks either a) only have a couple of kids and/or b) they never thought of doing that.
ReplyDeleteYou are a Mommy after my own heart ;)
With my son we were going to fill his kiddie pool one night and we added his bubbles and he had an outdoor "Bath"
ReplyDeleteWe consider water play bath time around here too. The kids often put bubble bath in the kiddie pool.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Dawn
Totally. I have been known to take kids directly from the dinner table to the back yard to hose them off if they are just too filthy to traipse through the house to the bathroom. Nothing wrong with an outdoors washing up - especially if the plants, garden or grass gets watered in the process...
ReplyDeleteSome messes are just better handled OUTSIDE :)
I am totally with you on this! Only we have never bothered with the shampoo, so I am thinking I will have to have an extra bottle downstairs for use outside!
ReplyDeleteI only wish we could do this year round. How do you think it would go over if I asked my girls to wash their faces off in the snow? No, I didn't think so either!
Maureen
Yup, us too. With hose and with rain. Our neighbors already think we're certifiable, so why not?
ReplyDeleteOh, we do this! We've done it at a river, also, which is borderline, really. We also bring the shampoo and conditioner to the pool now. I figure, if they're wet, let's clean up and save me doing again at the house.
